It’s just under a week until the Belham KS2 nativity show. Although having practiced the songs during singing assemblies and with their teacher in-class, some extra practice can always help your child feel extra confident when the curtain drops. With this year’s performances just around the corner, we’ve pulled together some hot tips to help your child memorise their lines.

  1. Break It Down
Encourage your child to break the song in small sections, such as one verse or chorus at a time. This makes it much less overwhelming and easier to memorise.

  2. Repetition is Key
Schedule short, regular practice sessions. Repeating a song daily, even for just five minutes, helps cement the lyrics.

  3. Use Actions and Movements
Pair lyrics with simple hand gestures or dance moves to make the song more engaging and help reinforce memory. For example, mimic riding a sleigh for Jingle Bells.

  4. Sing Along with Recordings
Play the song and encourage the children to sing along. Repeating it several times helps them get used to the words and tune.

  5. Turn It Into a Game
Create fun challenges like filling in the blanks or a lyric scramble to make learning more interactive.

  6. Reward Success
Make sure your hard work is rewarded! Ask your adult if you can link learning your lyrics to rewards at home. For example, learning a song one evening could earn you more free-time doing something you enjoy.
WARNING: You will likely need to prove this to them with a performance!

Most importantly, remember to enjoy the process. We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th December.
