A review of Year 6's afternoon at Wicked!
‘Wicked is a musical adaptation of the popular book (and film) ‘The Wizard of Oz’, with a bit of a twist. It shows the story of the main villain; The Wicked Witch of the West, Elfabar.
We loved the way the show started with an animatronic surprise! The story followed the troubled life of Elfabar, with a phenomenal performance from Glinda. It’s an emotional show, with moments that may bring you to tears. As the show goes on, you uncover the backstory of The Wizard of Oz. The well written style makes sense, yet also keeps you guessing. A mixture of action, emotion and comedy means the characters are both easy to read and mysterious in their own way. As for the music, the songs were emotional and beautifully sung - a true delight to listen to.
Finally, we need to address the animatronics. Though they are frightening, the insane effort put into creating them is mind-blowing. Every component moves like clockwork, adding detail upon detail until you feel like you’ve stepped into the land of Oz.
Wicked was an incredible experience for the class. By the end we were in a fit of giggles and tears. The intricate and winding story, paired with an incredible stage set makes ‘Wicked’ one of the best musicals we’ve ever watched. This dazzling show will be one to remember!
